Turkish Warship in Karachi & Iran’s FM in Islamabad Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tension
Regional Developments Raise Global Concern
In a week of growing tension between India and Pakistan, two major international moves have caught everyone’s attention. First, a Turkish Navy warship, TCG Büyükada, arrived at Karachi Port. Then, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi landed in Islamabad for a diplomatic visit. These actions have raised important questions about regional alliances and diplomacy during this sensitive time.

What’s Happening?
After the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which killed 26 Indian tourists, tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply increased. In response, India suspended a water-sharing treaty and boosted border security.
At the same time, Turkey’s anti-submarine corvette, TCG Büyükada (F-512), docked at Karachi on May 4, 2025. Officially, the visit is being called a “goodwill naval mission”, meant to boost maritime cooperation with Pakistan.
However, the timing of this visit is sensitive. Many experts believe that this shows Turkey’s support for Pakistan, especially as both countries share strong defence and diplomatic ties.
Iran Steps In for Peace Talks
Meanwhile, on May 5, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad for a short visit. His goal is to help reduce tension and promote peace in the region.
Interestingly, Araghchi is expected to visit New Delhi next, possibly to hold talks with Indian leaders too. This shows Iran is playing a neutral diplomatic role, trying to connect both countries in a peaceful dialogue.
Although these events are not openly aimed at India, they signal shifting strategies in the region. With Pakistan receiving military and diplomatic guests from Turkey and Iran, India is closely watching. These developments may impact South Asia’s security and foreign policy in the coming weeks.
