Enhanced Border Security Post Operation Sindoor

Following the successful execution of ‘Operation Sindoor’, aimed at neutralizing threats emanating from across the western border, India has intensified security measures along the Bangladesh frontier. The Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF) have increased vigilance in West Bengal and Assam, conducting integrated exercises like ‘Teesta Prahar’ to ensure readiness and deter any potential threats.

Strategic Developments in Bangladesh

Recent reports have highlighted Bangladesh’s plans to revive the Lalmonirhat airbase, situated merely 20 km from the Indian border near the strategic Siliguri Corridor. This development, reportedly with assistance from external powers, has raised concerns regarding regional security dynamics and underscores the importance of India’s proactive defense posture.

China’s Engagements with Bangladesh and Pakistan

China has been deepening its ties with neighboring countries, notably Bangladesh and Pakistan. In March 2025, Bangladesh’s interim government signed multiple agreements with China, covering sectors like economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and health. Additionally, China is reportedly assisting Bangladesh in reviving the Lalmonirhat airbase, located near India’s strategic Siliguri Corridor.

In Pakistan, China continues to be a significant partner, both economically and militarily.
