IMF Gives Pakistan More Money: But Is It Indirect Support to Terrorism?
In a move that is raising many eyebrows across India and the global community, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved $2 billion in financial assistance for Pakistan. This includes $1 billion under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and $1.4 billion under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

While the IMF claims the money is to help Pakistan with economic reforms, food shortages, and debt, India has chosen to abstain from the vote, signaling a serious concern — could this money indirectly support terrorism?
India’s Serious Concern
India has clearly warned the IMF about the risk of fund misuse by Pakistan. The Indian representative at the IMF stated that such international funds may be diverted towards sponsoring terrorism, especially given Pakistan’s long history of sheltering and supporting terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and others.
Moreover, multiple terror attacks on Indian soil have been traced back to groups operating from Pakistan. So naturally, when Pakistan receives international aid without strong restrictions, it raises security alarms in India.
Is IMF Turning a Blind Eye?
One must ask — Does giving money to a state sponsor of terrorism make global institutions like IMF indirectly responsible?
After all, if terrorist groups thrive in Pakistan, and Pakistan is receiving billions in international aid, it’s not unfair to say that there should be strict accountability.
Without such checks, this financial help can turn into weapons, drones, and sleeper cells — all directed at destabilizing peace in the region.
Pakistan’s Dire Need
Pakistan, as per recent reports, has only a few days’ worth of essential food items like wheat, oil, and maize. Its economy is in deep crisis, and to manage basic needs, it has turned to IMF once again. But financial help must not come at the cost of global peace.
India urges IMF to track how Pakistan spends this aid.
Strict conditions must be attached.
Terrorist links must be verified and eliminated before future disbursements.
