Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Syria May Join Abraham Accords: Big Shift in Middle East Politics Under U.S. President Trump

The Middle East is once again in the global spotlight as U.S. President Donald Trump, currently serving his second term, takes major steps to expand the Abraham Accords. This move could soon bring Saudi Arabia and even Syria into formal diplomatic relations with Israel, something that was once considered impossible.
What Are the Abraham Accords?
The Abraham Accords were first signed in 2020 during Trump’s first term. These agreements helped Israel build official ties with United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan. The goal was to increase peace, trade, and security cooperation between Israel and Arab nations.
What’s Happening Now?
In May 2025, President Trump visited the Middle East again. During his tour:
He lifted U.S. sanctions on Syria, a country long isolated from Western powers.
He met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, becoming the first U.S. leader in 25 years to do so.
He urged Syria to normalize ties with Israel by joining the Abraham Accords.
At the same time, Trump is in talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to bring Saudi Arabia into the Accords. Although Saudi Arabia has not officially recognized Israel, there have been increasing signs of behind-the-scenes cooperation on security and trade.
“Saudi Arabia will join when it feels the time is right,” Trump said, expressing strong confidence in the process.
Why This Matters for the World
If Saudi Arabia and Syria officially join the Abraham Accords:
It would mark the largest-ever shift in Arab-Israel relations.
The Palestinian issue may be further sidelined in favor of regional cooperation.
It would boost India’s relations with all these countries, since India has strong ties with Israel, UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
However, there are also concerns. Some critics warn that the new Syrian leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, has a questionable human rights record. Others in Israel worry that Trump’s direct deals are bypassing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reducing his influence.
